MGET demonstration at the 2nd International Marine Conservation Congress

Where: EBM Tools Help Desk workshops

When: Tuesday, May 17, 12:15 - 14:15 and Wednesday, May 18, 12:15 - 14:15

Attending IMCC? Stop by the EBM Tools Help Desk workshop to learn more about MGET and six other tools that can assist you with your marine research and management projects. Please see the attached announcement for more information.

The first day will be an informal, fair-style workshop similar to the EBM Tools Knowledge Café at IMCC 2009. Attendees can walk around the room to different stations where presenters will be giving short presentations about their tools and fielding questions. The presentations will be repeated so that attendees can learn about several different tools over the course of the workshop. I will be giving an overview presentation that describes some of the more popular and recently-developed tools in the MGET collection.

If there is sufficient interest and time permits, I may give live demonstrations of some tools. I would love to see you there, hear about your work, and discuss how MGET might help you with it.

The second day will consist of 30-minute 1-on-1 consultations between tool developers and attendees who would like assistance or deeper discussion on a particular topic. To participate in this, you must reserve a 30-minute slot on the first day of the workshop. In this session, I would be happy discuss your project at length and give in-depth demonstrations of whatever MGET tools you are interested in.

I hope to see you there!

Best regards,

Jason

***Please forward to colleagues attending IMCC that might be interested.***

Come visit with the Network!  The EBM Tools Network is hosting a lunchtime workshop at the International Marine Conservation Congress on May 17-18 to help marine and coastal managers and conservationists connect with tools that can help address critical EBM and conservation issues such as:

-       Building integrated online information systems for sharing legal, physical, ecological, and cultural data (Multipurpose Marine Cadastre)

-       Designing reserve systems and/or multiple-use zoning plans (MarineMap, Marxan and Marxan with Zones, NatureServe Vista)

-       Integrating planning for terrestrial, freshwater, and marine systems (Marxan and Marxan with Zones, NatureServe Vista)

-       Understanding the human relationships that help determine the success of management and conservation actions (Stakeholder Network Mapping)

-       Creating habitat maps and modeling biological connectivity (Marine Geospatial Ecology Tools)

The EBM Tools Network training coordinator will also be on hand to discuss the Network's training offerings and new EBM tools database.

Read more about the tools that will be presented.

The workshop will consist of two lunchtime sessions.

-       On May 17, tool experts will provide a series of short (~ 15 minutes), informal demonstrations of the basic functionality of their tools.  Workshop participants arriving at the beginning of the first session and staying for the entire session will be able to see demonstrations of several tools.  THIS SESSION IS OPEN TO ALL IMCC ATTENDEES.

-       On May 18, some workshop participants will have the opportunity to meet with the tool experts on a one-on-one basis to discuss their specific project needs and tool application issues.  Tool experts will have three 30-minute timeslots available.  Sign-up for timeslots will take place on the first day of the workshop.  THIS SESSION IS ONLY OPEN TO WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS WHO SIGNED UP FOR A TIME SLOT ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WORKSHOP.  Workshop participants who are not signed up for one of the three timeslots but wish to speak with one of the tool experts are encouraged to arrange another time during IMCC to speak with him or her.

Best wishes for your work,
