Subject: | RE: [mget-help] MGET and Vista ArcGIS 9.3 |

Hi James, We're sorry you're seeing that problem. Hopefully I can help you
find a solution. I test MGET regularly on a Vista machine with ArcGIS 9.3.1
(which is really just 9.3 Service Pack 2, but ESRI decided to change the
version number at the last minute). So we know it does work, the trick is figuring
out why it is not working for you. What error message do you receive? In order to install MGET your user account must be in the
Administrators group. Most likely it already is, unless you are using a
computer at an organization where the IT department exerts a large degree of
control on personal computers. If you do not have administrative access, you
will have to get help from your IT staff. The usual reason for installation problems on Windows Vista is
the new User Account Control (UAC) feature of Windows. This is the feature that
is responsible for all the additional prompts when you try to install something
or perform other tasks that configure parts of your computer. I turned it off
completely on my own computer. Microsoft does not recommend this unless you are
an expert user who is comfortable disabling the additional line of safety that
UAC provides against malicious programs. If you believe this may be the problem, try this: 1.
After downloading the MGET setup program to a folder, navigate
to that folder with Windows Explorer, right click the setup program, and select
Run As Administrator. 2.
If that does not help, you can try disabling UAC completely.
Just put "disable Vista UAC" into your search engine for
instructions. Some sites tell you several ways to do it. I recommend the
simplest way, which is through the Control Panel. I hope this helps. If you can give some more detail about the
error message, I can probably provide better advice. Best regards, Jason From: James Price
