Dear MGET users,

Last week, AVISO made another change to their OPenDAP server that affects MGET’s tools that access AVISO data. You may remember my message from November in which I described how AVISO switched their server to provide their Delayed Time (DT) datasets in daily timesteps instead of weekly timesteps. Last week they switched it back to providing those datasets in weekly timesteps. Fortunately they announced the change this time. They also activated some new OPeNDAP URLs that offer the daily data.

Starting with MGET 0.8a32, released today, the tools that access AVISO data allow you to select between daily and weekly timesteps. If you use MGET to access AVISO data, I highly recommend you upgrade to 0.8a32.

If you continue to use releases 0.8a28 to 0.8a31, be advised that the documentation for these releases states that most DT products use a daily timestep, but the outputs these releases produce will be in weekly timesteps. In short, the tools correctly handle AVISO’s decision to change back to weekly timesteps, but the documentation is in error.

Finally, if you use 0.8a27 or earlier, it will now work properly again. My message from November described how 0.8a27 and earlier were broken by AVISO switching to daily timesteps. Now that they have switched back to weekly timesteps, which those MGET releases were hard-coded to expect, those releases work properly again.

Sorry for any confusion you have around this. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.

Best regards,

Jason
