Subject: | RE: [mget-help] MGET: doubt with HDF 5 files |

Dear Maria, Thanks for your interest in MGET. I’m glad it has been useful to you so far. Unfortunately the Convert SDS in HDF to ArcGIS Raster tool is only compatible with HDF version 4, not HDF version 5. HDF 5 is a very different format; programs must use a different low-level code library to access it, which is why switching to it is not trivial for programs such as MGET. Eventually we will develop an HDF 5 conversion tool for MGET, but I do not have an estimated time for completion of that yet. However, I may be able to help you find a solution. If you can give me a link to the data you are downloading, I might be able to advise you on how to access it. Best regards, Jason From: Maria Perez [mailto:] Good morning, My name is Maria Perez, and I work at Doga Dernegi (Turkish partner of BirdLife International) in the 'Black Sea seabirds Project' for proposing marine IBAS. Through the website I found your geoprocessing toolbox (MGET), which is really very good and useful for my research. I am using this tool for converting habitat variable data from Ocean Color Web to arcgis raster and until now the tool has been running without problem. The procedure I follow all the time is: I download the files in HDF4 from the web site, following in ArcGIS 10 where I use Conversion Tool (Convert SDS in HDF to ArcGIS Raster) of MGET. But now, I have downloaded two variables in HDF5 format and MGET doesn't work. Everytime I try to convert these data to raster the dialog box says 'the file is not a HDF file'. Do you know which is the problem? Does this toolbox work with HDF 5 file?. Because I have checked that ArcGIS 10 works with this kind of files. Thank you very much in advanced, Maria |
