Dear Valentina, Thanks for your interest in MGET. Unfortunately there is not a manual yet. My supervisor and I are seeking funding to prepare a manual and training materials. 95% of the tools and their parameters are individually documented; you can access the documentation within ArcGIS by opening a tool and clicking the Show Help >> button. Here are several other resources you could try: · For a quick overview of the essential part of the predictive modeling workflow, see here. There are three main tools you link together to fit, evaluate, and predict a model. This blog entry shows a GLM example but the workflow is the same for most of the other statistical frameworks supported by MGET (GLM, GAM, trees, random forests). · For a detailed example that you can download and run yourself, see here. This includes a much more extensive workflow, starting from scratch with point observations of an animal, obtaining oceanographic correlates, exploring the data, fitting a model, and predicting a map. There is also a very outdated video recording you can watch. Since you are familiar with habitat mapping already, you can probably skip that. · The Roberts et al. 2010 paper provides some sparse documentation for an example similar to this one. · The bottom of this page lists some scenarios that MGET can help with. Those are some of the topics we’d like to write up in a tutorial. If you have specific interests I can provide more detailed guidance. I should say that throughout these materials, we focus mostly on the mechanics of using the software and not the details of proper statistical analysis. We took a lot of shortcuts to get to the result quickly (going from points to maps) and experienced modelers can find many areas where we bypassed important steps or problems. If you are in need of practical modeling advice, rather than illustration of the software, I can point you to some papers and other resources. Best, Jason From: Lauria, Valentina [mailto:] Dear All, I just came across this fantastic tool and installed on my PC! I have quite a lot of experience in habitat mapping and I usually build my own models in R and translate them into ArcGIS. I saw the list of papers on the website but I was wondering if there is any manual how to use it properly. Many Thanks, Valentina Dr. Valentina Lauria Postdoctoral Researcher Associate Room 118, Ryan Institute University Road National University of Ireland, Galway Galway Ireland tel 00353 (0)91492939 http://www.nuigalway.ie/our-research/people/natural-sciences/valentinalauria/ |
