Hi Nathan,
Thanks for your interest in MGET.
Unfortunately we have not started the cookbook yet. After scoping it out, we
realized it would be a substantial job and my boss decided we should try to
obtain funding to complete it, rather than trying to squeeze it in as a
piecemeal skunkworks effort. We are actively pursuing funding. I am very
sorry we do not have something by now.
In the meantime, I can point you to several sources of overview material:
1.
http://swfsc.noaa.gov/textblock.aspx?Division=FED&ParentMenuId=54&id=18070
contains a PowerPoint that gives a quick tour of the toolbox. It is somewhat
dated (a year old) and does not go into significant depth but can give you a
flavor of the kinds of tools that are in MGET.
2. The downloadable habitat modeling example
(http://code.nicholas.duke.edu/projects/mget/wiki/HabitatModeling)
illustrates what might be two of the most popular applications of MGET:
accessing oceanographic data from ArcGIS and building a species distribution
model from ArcGIS using MGET's integration with R.
3. The main MGET paper (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.envsoft.2010.03.029)
gives an overview of the software architecture of the toolbox and gives a
habitat modeling example similar to #2 above.
4. As you have already noticed,
http://mgel.env.duke.edu/mget/documentation/arcgis-tutorial/ contains a list
of scenarios. This is not comprehensive but does cover many of the common
applications.
If you have any questions or specific NAVO requirements, I'd be happy to
comment. Also, seeing that you are at Stennis, I will mention that Jason
Jones at the NASA SSC Education Office has been using MGET for a few years
with his interns. He might be someone who can comment in person on his
experiences with MGET.
Best,
Jason

Subject: [mget-help] MGET cookbook.
Hello,
I work at the Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space center and
I have been tasked to evaluate the MGET toolbox for specific requirements
that NAVO has.
I was wondering if I could get a copy of the cookbook in its current state
no matter the amount that is complete? If there are other specific documents
that you may recommend it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
