Francisco,

Unfortunately the 64-bit port is still not ready. It is nontrivial and has been on the back burner for some time. The main challenge is that MGET integrates and installs many different open source libraries. This makes installation easy for the user—you just run the setup—but it means we have to figure out how to build all of those things in 64-bit mode. As of two years ago, not all of them had been ported to 64-bits by their original developers, so it meant taking that on ourselves. That situation has been getting better but it is still a huge job. Our resources are limited and other things are higher priority.

Assuming you are running MGET with ArcGIS, you can install MGET in either 32-bit or x64 Windows with ArcGIS Desktop 9.1 through 10.2.2 (10.3 compatibility is coming this month). MGET is not compatible with ArcGIS 64-bit Background Geoprocessing. We recommend that you do not install 64-bit Background Geoprocessing. If you do install it, you have to ensure MGET does not run in the background. Running in the “foreground” means that MGET will run within the context of ArcMap.exe or ArcCatalog.exe processes, which are 32-bit programs. Running in the “background” with 64-bit, means that ArcGIS will separate 64-bit python.exe process and try to run MGET in there; this will not work.

MGET also will not be compatible with the new “ArcGIS Pro” anytime soon. ArcGIS Pro is a 64-bit program, and uses Python 3.4.

I hope that clarifies the situation. Sorry we are not further along!

Best,

Jason

Subject: [mget-help] Question regarding x64 bit mget status

Hi,

I am writing to inquire on the status of the x64-bit version of the Marine Geospatial Ecology Tools package for ArcGIS.

Any information is welcome.

Thanks a lot!!
