Most likely, the problem is that somehow the registry keys for the ArcGIS Python installation (32-bit Python 2.7) are missing from the Windows registry. You can start regedit.exe and look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Python. If you do not find that key, or it does not contain PythonCore\2.7\InstallPath, then this is the problem. Python packages compiled by the Python distutils module into “Windows binary installers” look for this registry key. If they find it they display it in their installation wizard—there is a way to have multiple of them there, which you can select from. But if they don’t then they’ll claim Python is not installed.

You can fix this problem by restoring the registry keys. In my next email to you, I will send a .reg file that will do this. But because Duke deployed ProofPoint anti-malware on all of our email accounts, it is very difficult to send anything that could possibly be used to cause harm. So if you don’t get this message after a while, email me back and we’ll find a different transmission mechanism.

Hi mget gang!

I was trying to install mget for ArcGIS 10.4 (python 2.7 is installed)- but I keep getting an error message from the py32 windows extension (for 2.7 https://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/files/pywin32/Build%20218/) that it is unable to find Python 2.7 installed (but it is! I even downloaded the latest py in another directory). There’s no way point it to the appropriate directory (there’s a space but it doesn’t accept typing)…
