Dear Moein,

I’m sorry to say that MGET’s HDF conversion tool only works with HDF4, not HDF5, at least the version of it that you can access through ArcGIS. Eventually we hope to update it to support HDF5 but we don’t have the resources to do this at present.

Recent versions of ArcGIS can read HDF5 directly. I recommend you try looking at the .h5 file with ArcCatalog and see if it gives want you want. I was able to view the file:

https://acdisc.gsfc.nasa.gov/data/Aura_OMI_Level2G/OMAEROG.003/2019/OMI-Aura_L2G-OMAEROG_2019m0101_v003-2019m0104t153948.he5

although it came out upside-down, so it would need some additional processing.

To convert HDF5 to GIS-compatible raster formats, I recommend using the command line tool gdal_translate from the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL). MGET includes a copy of GDAL, although it is a fairly old version. Still, it is able to read that file (see below). Please see the GDAL documentation for more information about using gdal_translate.

Best,

Jason

 Dear MGET support team,

I hope you are doing well. We have "OMI/Aura Multi-wavelength Aerosol Optical Depth and Single Scattering Albedo Daily L2 Global Gridded 0.25 degree x 0.25 degree V3"  data from NASA website and these data come in *.he5 format:

https://disc.gsfc.nasa.gov/datasets/OMAEROG_V003/summary?keywords=AOD

MGET seems not to be compatible with this new format because we cannot get *.he5 converted to .tiff. Actually we tried to rename the extension to *.hdf and *.h5 but it didn't work out. Please let us know what would be the solution.

Attached please find a data sample and the error report from ArcGIS

I am looking forward to hearing back from you,

Thank you,

Moein.
