Hi Randall,

We are sorry, but MGET is only supported on 32-bit Python 2.4-2.7 at this time. It is not supported on Python 3.x. We were recently contacted by someone who might be able to help fund or collaborate with us on the work required to port MGET to 3.x, but this could not happen until 2022, given our current commitments.

Anyway, if you install 32-bit Python 2.7, you can then install build 228 of pywin32, which is the last release of pywin32 to support Python 2.7. To do that, go to https://github.com/mhammond/pywin32/releases, scroll down to Release 228, click on Assets, and download and install. pywin32-228.win32-py2.7.exe. Then install MGET for Python 2.7.

That said, most MGET users access MGET from ArcGIS Desktop, using the ArcGIS geoprocessing toolbox that is a central part of MGET. If you have ArcGIS Desktop, it should have installed 32-bit Python 2.7 for you, and you should install pywin32 build 228 and then MGET to the installation directory of that Python (e.g. C:\Python27\ArcGIS10.8). If you are not using ArcGIS, it is possible to use many MGET’s capabilities directly from Python using MGET’s Python packages, but these are only partially documented and this capability is not officially supported. If you have some expertise with Python, we’re happy to help with specific scenarios but haven’t had the resources to offer a full API, so to speak.

I hope this helps,

Jason

Subject: [mget-help] help installing the MGET

Hello,

I’m trying to install the Marine Geospatial Ecology toolbox and I keep getting the error message “Python version 2.7 required, which was not found in the registry”. I made sure I have Python downloaded. On Step 4, I downloaded pywin-32-301.win32-py3.9 since I have version 3.9 of Python. I clicked the link (https://github.com/mhammond/pywin32/releases) but I couldn’t find pywin32 for python 2.7 so I selected version 3.9 since that is what my computer is running. I’m not sure if I need to navigate to a different registry so I can use the pywin32 for python 2.7 or what I need to do to get the MGET downloaded.

Thanks,
Landes
