Dear Daniella,

Mahalo for your interest in MGET's connectivity modeling tool. We are actively working on porting MGET to Python 3 and ArcGIS Pro—probably Python 3.9 and higher and ArcGIS Pro 3.2 and higher—but only some of the core modules have been completed so far. The connectivity tool is on the list but we have not reached it yet. It is one of the more advanced tools, which requires interfacing Python with MATLAB. As part of this major update to MGET, we are updating the way this interface works, which is a big job. (As before, the tool will rely on MATLAB's free runtime software, and it will not be necessary to have MATLAB itself installed.)

Given our other commitments that prevent us from working on this full time, it could take us several more months to get the connectivity tool done. What is your timeline? If your science fair is happening this spring, I'm afraid it will not be ready in time. Later this year might be feasible, though.

If you have MATLAB and are skilled in it, we're happy to share the code that is the core of the algorithm. However, it will still be a significant job on your part to download the data and prepare it for running with the algorithm. A big part of the tooling in MGET is to help with that problem. Let me know if you're interested in that code, though

Separately, I have no expertise in deep sea octocorals, but one thing you should know is that the algorithm is only 2D and is typically run with surface currents. This could be fine if your coral larvae are known to mainly inhabit surface waters during their dispersal phase. But if they spend time in deeper waters before settling, the algorithm would not be able to account for that influence on their advection.

Best,
Jason

Hello,
I am a high school teacher and I have a student who is doing a science fair project and competing in ISEF. We came across your new larval connectivity modeling tool and think it would be perfect to help us with our analysis. She is researching deep sea octocorals. However, we are having issues since we did not previously have an ArcGIS Desktop account. All new accounts no longer have ArcMap included in it. We were wondering if this model has been ported over to ArcGIS Pro yet or if you have any advice on if it is possible to get access to ArcMap. Thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide.
