Hi Jason,

Thanks so much for the quick response! That's interesting to hear that you've had better results with the Canny algorithm - everything I've read implies that C-C is less sensitive to parameter selection. Do you think it performs better specifically for the U.S. Atlantic or more generally? I did come across the Xing et al. algorithm and am intrigued. I am looking to associate our gannet tracking data from Project WOW to these environmental covariates and the timescale of the data is 2023-2025. The Xing et al dataset only goes up to 2023 which is why I am (albeit hesitantly) needing to derive my own front data. I was struggling to make sense of the python code from the authors so would be curious to know if you have replicated this front detection algorithm or just used the existing dataset? Any additional guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Julia

Hi Julia,

Nice to hear from you. I hope to eventually port the C-C tool but am taking a break from MGET work for the next few months to finish some other projects. The C-C tool has not as been as high priority for us because we've had what I believe are better results from the Canny algorithm. More recently, we've also been using Xing et al.'s algorithm and dataset. I still think there is value in porting C-C to Python 3 / ArcGIS Pro, but the soonest I'd get to it would probably be January. Apologies I don't have a faster timeline!

Best,
Jason

Hi there,

I see that you have been working to get the MGET Toolbox into ArcGIS Pro and it looks like only some functions have been brought over from the original desktop version. In particular I am interested in the Cayula-Cornillion front detection capabilities and wondering if there are plans to incorporate this functionality and if so on what timeline?

Thanks,
Julia
