Helga,

The file that you identified, pywin32-216.win32-py2.6.exe, is the correct one, and http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/files/pywin32/Build216/ is the correct place to get that file. When I go that location and click on the pywin32-216.win32-py2.6.exe, the next page says “Your Python for Windows extensions download will start in 5 seconds” and then counts down to 0. When it reaches 0, my browser prompts me to download. Is that what you see, or do you get something else?

Regarding the Python 2.6 GeoEco-0.8a26 appearing in the Add/Remove Programs list, even though it was not installed. In reality, it is not actually installed. But because the installation was started, Python puts an entry there and, unfortunately, when the installation fails, Python does not remove the entry. This is a bug in Python.

If you would like to clean up the list, you can click on Python 2.6 GeoEco-0.8a26 and remove it. You may receive a message saying something about the program not being there, but would you like to remove it from the list? Click OK and it will be removed.

There is also little harm in leaving it there before you install MGET a second time, although if you do, there may be two Python 2.6 GeoEco-0.8a26 entries in the Add/Remove Programs list. As far as I know there is not any harm in that, but it does look strange.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask more questions.

Jason

Subject: unable to install MGET

I am sorry but I did not notice the error "Running the pre-installation script failed Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 139, in <module> RuntimeError:
The Python for Windows Extensions (a.k.a. the pywin32 package) are
not installed for this version of Python. MGET requires this package.
Please download it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/, install
it, and run this MGET setup program again.
When you download it, be sure to select the package that is appropriate
for your version of Python (version 2.6)."

I have zoned in on the file that i have to download http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/files/pywin32/Build216/ but when i hit the file that I need pywin32-216.win32-py2.6.exe  i am sent to another page which is very confusing.
How do I get this file?
Also I have noticed that I already have the Python 2.6 GeoEco-0.8a26 in my Add or Remove Task Bar.
Thanks a lot.
Helga

Hi,
I tried to install MGET on my Windows computer with XP but I havent had
much luck. I have ArcGis 10 and Python 2.6 - others in my lab at Lamont
Doherty seem to have had no problems with the same version of ArcGis.
I downloaded GeoEco-0.8a26.win32-py2.6.exe from your site and then
opened it and went through the 'wizard' but at the last step nothing
really happens. I checked ArcTools Box but I dont see it there. What am
I doing wrong?
Thanks a lot and sorry for the bother.
Helga
