Mia,
Sorry about this long error message. We are relying on underlying libraries
and the operating system to provide details of the problem, and because they
do not enumerate the possible failure scenarios ahead of time, all we can
easily do is just repeat what they report to MGET when the failure occurs.
The key here is this part: "[Errno 10060] A connection attempt failed
because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time,
or established connection failed because connected host has failed to
respond". As you surmised, the problem is that MGET cannot connect to the
OPeNDAP server. In this case, the failure is not related to the username and
password; it occurs before that point, when MGET is simply trying to
establish the connection.
The most likely possibility is that AVISO took the server offline
temporarily for maintenance. I just successfully accessed the dataset you
are interested in (global DT-MSLA Ref SSH). Are you seeing a persistent
failure? It is possible it will work if you just try again later.
I can confirm that you should continue to use "aviso-users" and "grid2010"
as the username and password. Although AVISO said those would be temporary,
it has been 1.5 years now...
If you enter an invalid username or password you should receive the error
message described in http://code.nicholas.duke.edu/projects/mget/ticket/472.
That error message is certainly not very clear. Eventually we will write a
special handler that intercepts the message and replaces with one that
describes the true root cause (invalid username or password).

It seems the problem is with connecting to Opendap server.
I have used the "aviso-users", "grid2010" username and password as well as
my personal username and password for a AVISO account that I have. I have
downloaded netcdf files from AVISO before so my username and password does
work.
I have also just upgraded to the latest version of MGET because I thought
that might be the problem and still no luck.
Am I missing something obvious? Do you perhaps have a solution for me?
All my other MGET tools work (or the ones I use at least). Thank you for
this toolbox...very cool and useful!
