Michael, Sorry; no progress has been made. The data are still listed by NASA PO.DAAC as a “preview”. After receiving your message I emailed them for an update but have not heard back yet. Although I do not want to push all responsibility for this onto them—the main reason why there has been no progress in MGET has been that I’ve been tasked with non-MGET work almost 100% since late last year—it does not appear that their automation for generating the data is complete. Most of the data are stored in yearly netCDF files that contain 70 5-day images. The 2013 file only contains two images, for 1-Jan-2013 and 6-Jan-2013. Bizarrely, the last modified time on the file is this morning. Separately, there are other netCDFs that contain 1 time slice each. These start in December 2011 and run until now, with the latest dated this morning. I suspect that their automation is collecting data and creating the single-slice files but is failing to properly update the yearly aggregation file with each new slice. To get MGET working, I’d have to switch it from reading a single file containing all time slices, to one that reads yearly files for all years through 2012 and then reads these single files for 2013 and later. That is kludgy but it can be done. Can you tell me a little about your project? What years of data do you need and when you need them by? My inclination is to fix MGET to read the yearly files but not the single-image files. I think those single-image files will go away—or will at least be integrated into the yearly files whenever they are generated—as soon as PO.DAAC is able to move this product from a “preview” state to something more finalized. Best, Jason From: Michael Bender [mailto:] Jason, I am following up on the question/concern raised by Roxanne Duncan in January about NOAA moving OPeNDAP access to OSCAR and its effects on the ability to pull in data products. I was hoping that maybe things had settled in their new home and the tools could be adapted for the new web addresses. Has any progress been made to this end? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Mike B. |
