Dear MGET users,

I will be giving a short (30 min) webinar demonstrating species distribution modeling with MGET, as part of the free NOAA Virtual Coastal GeoTools conference on Thursday, June 20 at approximately 1:30 PM U.S. Eastern Daylight Time. The demonstration will show how to use point observations of a marine species to sample oceanographic time series data, fit a multivariate statistical model, and predict maps of the species’ distribution using oceanographic images. If you are curious about this workflow but have never seen it demonstrated, this will be an excellent opportunity. NOAA says that space is limited, so please register for the conference early. I suspect they will be recording it, so you may be able to view it later if you are unable to see it live. There are also many other tools being demonstrated over the three-day span of the virtual conference. I encourage you to check them out, too.

In related news, I released a new version of MGET today (0.8a49) that adds support for the latest version of R, 3.0.1. Please upgrade if you need access to the latest version of R. Note that R 3.0.0 is not supported due to a bug in R that was fixed in 3.0.1.

Here’s a quick summary of MGET changes from the last six months:

·         Added support for versions of R up to 3.0.1 (except 3.0.0)

·         Enhancements to Data Products tools:

o    Added tools for 4km Pathfinder 5.2 SST

o    Fixed NOAA OSCAR tools to download from NASA PO.DAAC instead of NOAA PMEL THREDDS server (which has been decommissioned by NOAA)

o    Switched HYCOM Gulf of Mexico tools to use new, more reliable HYCOM server

o    Added support for HTTP and SOCKS proxies for tools that download data

·         Enhancements to statistical tools:

o    Fixed handling of categorical predictor variables. All tools support categorical variables now, as either integers or strings.

o    Plot enhancements: Added PDF as an output plot format for some tools. Enabled anti-aliasing for PNG plots. Changed term plots to be named with the term, rather than an integer.

·         Many bug fixes and other minor improvements

Best regards,

Jason Roberts ()
